Are you an aspiring actor/actress looking for that perfect monologue that’s going to take you from just another face in an audition to the bright lights of Broadway (or off-Broadway) or the glamour and fame of Hollywood?

That Perfect Monologue

The right monologue means different things to different actors, and unless you’re reading a monologue from the script of whatever you’re trying out for, there is no “perfect monologue” for every audition. Depending on your own abilities and what kind of role you’re auditioning for, a well-prepared actor is equipped with at least three or four good monologues which speak to their acting abilities.

But searching for that right monologue, now that is the real challenge! The delivery of the monologue is almost child’s play compared to finding the right one for you. You try the bookstores. You try the library. You try the Internet only to find websites that want you to pay for monologues before you even see them, or you type “dramatic” or “comedic” into a search engine only to find monologues that are neither dramatic or comedic! Or worse, you find second-rate monologues written by people who do not know the difference between a monologue and a dialogue. What’s worse, many monologues out there are written for Caucasian characters, or characters whose ethnic background may be more New England and less anything else. If you’re Black, Latino, Italian-American or Korean, finding that one monologue that has YOU written all over it may be next to impossible.

That’s where I come in.

Just tell me what you want in a monologue, and I’ll write the perfect one to match the roles for which you most frequently audition. Comedic? Dramatic? Standing up? Sitting down? Ethnic? Soliloquy? When I say custom made, I mean it!

How I Got Started

A few years back a close friend who was an aspiring actress asked me to help her find a good monologue to use in her acting class and later, for auditions. We looked everywhere, and neither of us were really satisfied with what we found. After a few days, and her acting class a day away, I finally came up with the idea that since I’m a writer, it wouldn’t hurt for me to try to create my own according to her specifications. Her acting coach loved the monologue and so did her classmates, some of whom had experienced the same trouble in finding a monologue they could work with, who paid me to write monologues for them.

I have nothing against people searching among existing monologues for that masterpiece that speaks to their talents. If you’ve got the time, go for it. Hey, maybe you’ll be incredibly lucky and find the right monologue for you in the first book you look in.  But for almost all other actors, the search for a suitable monologue can be a very long one.

How Would It Work?

Simply describe to me what kind of role you are auditioning for or intend to primarily play during your acting career. Then get really specific-if you want a monologue that focuses on the character’s hometown, ethnic background or upbringing, if you want the character to be in a specific situation, if the character is expressing their inner thoughts, speaking to another person or addressing a group of people, etc. If you’re not sure of what you want, I’ve helped a few actors with this dilemma before, and can do the same for you.

I’ve written custom monologues in an hour, and am extremely adaptable to work on my computer or yours. We can work together on this as closely as you want, or I can work my magic solo and leave you free to get more head shots. Because of my current work schedule I may not be able to guarantee same-day perfection, so let me know when you need this and I’ll do my best to accommodate you as early as possible.

Remember, I’m writing your monologue here! This isn’t going to be some overused script that casting directors have heard over and over again; your custom monologue will be unique, original and sure to impress audiences and keep directors and producers from forgetting your name anytime soon! I will stay true to your vision and only stop when you are satisfied.

I am currently only available to meet with clients in the New York metro area but will be expanding to accommodate clients in the Los Angeles area later this year.

Previous Work

Feel free to check out the custom monologues I’ve written in the past. You’re probably asking yourself, are my past clients big Hollywood stars? To be perfectly honest, I don’t know. Most of my previous clients only went by stage names, or they went by real names I don’t remember. Some clients only wanted to have a career in independent theatre or off-off-Broadway, so we’re not likely to see their faces in US Weekly anytime soon. Some clients faded into obscurity, or simply made career changes soon after.

Even the greatest monologue for you won’t make a difference if you audition for roles that might stunt and not advance your career. Great monologues will not keep you from picking the wrong roles for you. My contribution to your acting career means nothing unless you make the right moves and maintain your credibility as a dynamic actor.

Prices

Generally I charge $40 for a one page monologue, which runs about 1,000 words long. Because of problems with past clients, I must insist upon a 50% deposit in advance, and I do not accept checks. I accept PayPal but also accept cash and money orders.

Contact me today, and let’s see if we can’t make you a star! Just promise you’ll remember me when you’re famous.
